It's part of the larger Los Angeles metropolitan area. It borders Brea and Corona on the northwest, Chino Hills State Park on the north, and Placentia on the west. It's also located within the Orange Unified School District. The district enrolled approximately 25,000 students during the 2015-2016 school year.

In the 1960s, Yorba Linda began to develop into a suburban community. In 1972, it adopted the General Plan for Municipal Development. This plan included the building of new commercial structures on Main Street and the construction of several new schools. In addition, Yorba Linda entered into a five-year contract with the Orange County Sheriff's Department. The Orange County Fire Authority also provides fire services.

Birthplace of ex-president Richard Nixon

The Nixon family lived in this house until 1922. It was then reconstructed in 1912. The family moved to Whittier, California in 1922. The house has a small flat-roofed addition on the back. The front elevation features a projecting gable-roofed entry.

Nixon's father was a Methodist Protestant Church member. He also was an owner of a gas station and citrus farm. He was also active in civic life.
