A Legacy of Excellence: The History of Newman Windows and Doors

When Duncan Newman walks through the lobby of Newman Windows and Doors, he's not just stepping into a workspace—he’s revisiting a legacy.

“As we head into the holiday season, it feels like the perfect time to reflect on where we started, how we’ve grown, and where we’re headed,” Duncan shares, with the warmth and sincerity that defines his leadership.

From Humble Beginnings to San Diego’s Most Trusted Name

It all began on June 12, 1989, when Duncan obtained his contractor’s license. “Back then, license numbers weren’t in the millions like today,” he chuckles, pointing out his C17 glazing license. This milestone marked the start of a journey that would redefine quality and innovation in San Diego’s window and door market.

By 1993, Newman Windows and Doors officially opened its doors. The young company faced the challenges of a competitive industry but found its breakthrough with a bold advertising move.

“I reached out to the Blade Citizen newspaper,” Duncan recalls. The newspaper featured a front-page story that propelled the business to new heights, cementing its quality and customer service reputation.

“The next thing I know, we had 37 messages on our answering machine that Monday morning. It was electrifying,” he shared proudly.

A Reputation Built on Excellence

Awards and accolades soon followed, reflecting the company’s commitment to its craft and community. Newman Windows and Doors has earned more “Dealer of the Month” and “Dealer of the Year” titles than Duncan can count. The National Association of Remodeling Industry (NARI) has also recognized the company and has maintained an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau for three decades.

“We’ve been honored as the Best of Carlsbad every year since 2008,” Duncan notes, proudly displaying plaques and trophies in the office. Even during the pandemic, the team adapted, leveraging virtual meetings to continue building relationships and earning trust in the community.

Giving Back: A Heart for the Community

For Newman Windows and Doors, success is more than business—it’s about giving back. Duncan is particularly proud of the company’s partnership with Warrior Foundation Freedom Station, which supports wounded veterans.

“We’ve worked on three Freedom Station projects, creating energy-efficient homes for veterans transitioning back to civilian life,” he shares. “For those with prosthetic limbs, climate-controlled units are critical to their comfort and mobility.”

Another meaningful initiative is the company’s support of Reins, an equine-assisted therapy program.

“I’ll never forget attending their annual hoedown and seeing a young man with Down syndrome sing the national anthem,” Duncan recalls. “The joy and healing this program brings are extraordinary.”

Beyond local efforts, the company’s reach extends globally. Newman Windows and Doors contributed to building a school in Africa, inspired by their IT professional Marco's involvement.

“It’s amazing to think that our work here in San Diego can have such a profound impact halfway across the world,” Duncan says.

A Family Affair

Duncan’s wife, Maria, is vital to the Newman story.

“Maria and I have always approached this as a partnership,” he says. Together, they’ve guided the company through challenges and triumphs, building a business and a legacy of care and excellence.

Looking Ahead

As Newman Windows and Doors moves forward, its quality, service, and community foundation remain unshakable.

“Every award, every project, every partnership—it all points to the same thing: making life better for the people we serve,” Duncan concludes.

As you consider how to make your home brighter and warmer this holiday season, remember the legacy of Newman Windows and Doors—a company rooted in history, driven by innovation, and guided by heart.
